How to Hang Christmas Light on Stucco

The Christmas season is upon us, and lots of home or building owners are wondering about the best way to hang Christmas lights on stucco. There are several ways to do it, and we are going to give you some tips in our blog article today.

Screws

Yes, you can put screws into stucco. However, it is a little more complicated than putting them in wood. The finished stucco exterior is like a seal. So, if you are going to place screws or anchors in stucco, then you need masonry screws, and you also have to put some caulking or silicone in the hole and around the area where you are breaching the stucco. This prevents water from entering your stucco and damaging the building envelope.

Double-Sided Tape

Double-sided tape works well on stucco, and it is a bit easier than using screws.

Hot Glue

Hot glue is another simple way to attach lights to stucco. However, like double-sided tape, this would have to be redone each year.

Plastic Clips

You can purchase small plastic clips at any big-box hardware store. These clips can be attached to gutters or sometimes fascia boards or other trim, and the clips can stay up permanently.

What you choose to use on your stucco depends in part on how many lights you intend to hang, how high off the ground you will be, and how handy you are. Also, screws are more permanent, and the same ones can be used every year, but they will be more challenging to install if you are on a ladder.
