How to Hang Christmas Lights on Stucco

Hanging Christmas lights on stucco

How you should hang Christmas lights on your stucco depends on how your stucco was applied, and also whether or not it’s painted. Hanging Christmas lights on stucco is not the easiest job, but we’re going to give you some tips on how to make it happen. Here are your options.

Hot Glue

Hot glue from a glue gun will work. However, you should not use hot glue if your stucco is painted, because the glue can damage the paint and even remove it when you remove the lights or clips.

Pre-installed Clips

If you are in the process of having stucco applied now or soon, then you can ask for some clips to be permanently installed in the stucco. Then you won’t have any work to do each year.

Double-sided Tape

It’s possible to use double-sided tape, but that depends on how your stucco was originally applied. If you have a thin layer of stucco over Styrofoam, then you shouldn’t use double-sided tape. If not, then it’s worth a try.

Eaves and Trim

The simplest solution is to hang your lights by fixing them with temporary or permanent hooks or clips to the trim, eaves, or fascia board. In this way, you don’t risk any damage to the stucco, and the hooks or clips can stay permanently wherever you place them.

Keep in mind that lots of people are injured every year, teetering on ladders or climbing on roofs to hang Christmas lights. Please be safe, and get someone to help you if needed.
